Care1st Health Plans Earn NCQA Full Accreditation

Monterey Park, CA (December 2008) -- In its first attempt, Care1st Health Plan has been awarded a three-year Commendable accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for both its Medicare Advantage, and Medi-Cal plans.

NCQA is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. The organization is known for its assessment and reporting on the quality of the nation’s managed care plans. NCQA Accreditation standards are intended to help organizations achieve the highest level of quality service and care.

NCQA reviews include thorough on-site and off-site evaluations conducted by a team of physicians and managed care experts. A committee of physicians analyzes the team's findings and assigns an accreditation level based on the plan’s performance compared to NCQA standards. The Commendable accreditation awarded to the two Care1st health plans resulted from a comprehensive evaluation of all aspects of its operations, including preventive health services, member satisfaction, physician credentialing and quality improvement.

“I am very proud that Care1st has been acknowledged on a national level for the exceptional quality of care we provide to our members,” said Jorge Weingarten, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Care1st Health Plan. “This recognition by NCQA validates that we are living up to our commitment to deliver quality care to our members.”

The accreditation process evaluates how well a health plan manages all parts of its system - physicians, hospitals, other providers and administrative services - so that it continuously improves health care for its members. NCQA Accreditation standards, the industry’s most rigorous, are purposely set high to encourage health plans to continuously enhance their quality.
